yeah, i had monja in tokyo… it’s basically okonomiyaki but made the way the guy in the video makes it. although he is waaaaay better than we were at making it… ours usually just became a mess, but it tasted fine anyway haha.
restaurants almost always have okonomiyaki and monja both, although i’ve never seen monja as street food..
Yeah, I’ve had it. Monja started in Tsukishima in Tokyo. It’s on the Oedo and Yurakucho line. Head out exit 7 and you’ll find dozens of shops. They say Monja outside, but have Okonomiyaki too. You make it like the guy in the video. Cook everything but the sauce first, form a bowl shape and poor some sauce in, let it thicken, poor the rest and mix. I’ve had it several times, but I’ve never anyone around me put toppings on it like Okonomiyaki. Normally you just eat it as it is. It looks horrible, but tastes pretty good. I think okonomiyaki is more filling though.
