The name suggested that it was a vegetarian Chinese restaurant in the heart of Shinjuku. I thought, “Greaat, more vegetarian options around” but apparently, Vege China also serves a lot of non-vegetarian items as well. In fact, many of its food items, even the vegetable dishes, comes with some form of meat. A deceiving name but for the option it gives, it’s bound to draw both type of crowds in – once people figure out its menu.
Metropolis did a review of the restaurant, you can read it here. From what I gather, this Chinese restaurant looks more like a fine dining place that serves Chinese food because from the picture there was no trail of any Chinese decor in its interior. How funny. A misleading name with a misleading interior. If all those Restaurant Makeover shows I have watch taught me, it is that your restaurant’s vibe must not be confusing. Vege China seems to have unchecked that box, not once by twice: 1) by serving non-vegetarian food 2) by having an interior that does not look like a Chinese restaurant. Maybe its food might make up for it. So has anyone of you Tokyoites in Shinjuku tried this restaurant? I am very keen to know what it’s like.
